Role Overview
We're looking for a Software Engineer – Backend to help build the services powering our Commerce platform. You'll design, develop, and ship backend features across our merchandising and recommendation APIs while working alongside experienced engineers who will help you grow technically.
This is a hands-on backend engineering role focused on building reliable, scalable APIs and distributed services. You'll own features end-to-end—from design through production—and contribute to a platform that powers personalized commerce experiences at scale.

About the Commerce Team
The Commerce (Recommendations & Merchandising) team builds the intelligence behind modern e-commerce experiences.
Our platform powers personalized recommendations, merchandising automation, intelligent search, and the data infrastructure that enables them.
Our technology stack includes Python and Go microservices, React applications, and a Google Cloud-based data platform using Airflow, dbt/Dataform, BigQuery, and ClickHouse.
As part of the team, you'll help build scalable backend services that directly impact millions of customer interactions.
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, test, and deploy backend features from concept to production.
- Build scalable REST and GraphQL APIs using modern Python frameworks.
- Design efficient data models and write optimized SQL queries for PostgreSQL.
- Improve application performance using caching, asynchronous processing, and scalable backend patterns.
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices.
- Monitor production systems, investigate issues, and help improve reliability and observability.
- Collaborate closely with Product, Design, QA, and fellow engineers to deliver high-quality features.
What We're Looking For
Required
- 1–3 years of professional experience building production backend applications.
- Strong programming skills in Python.
- Experience with FastAPI, Flask, Django, or similar backend frameworks.
- Good understanding of SQL and relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
- Experience designing or consuming REST and/or GraphQL APIs.
- Familiarity with Git, automated testing, debugging, and code review practices.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Nice to Have
- Redis or similar caching technologies.
- Docker and cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure).
- Exposure to Go.
- Experience with ClickHouse, BigQuery, Elasticsearch, or Meilisearch.
- Knowledge of asynchronous programming.
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools.
- Exposure to e-commerce, personalization, recommendation systems, or search platforms.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Equivalent professional experience is equally valued.
